Plan a cube shelf: fit baskets in a real NZ unit

Measure one cube

Empty one cube. Measure the clear width between the uprights, the clear depth to the back, and the clear height to the board above. Shelf pins and a lip eat a little of that gap, so measure the hole a box can sit in.

Kmart’s inside size is 27.5 × 29 × 28.5 cm. If your tape is tighter, use your number. In Plan your storage, select the shelf and type that width, depth, and bay height. Shelf 1 is the top. Add a shelf for each cube you are filling.

Fit a real basket

Search Storage with the cube you measured. For the published Kmart opening, start at 27.5 × 29 × 28.5 cm, then change the boxes to your tape. The Mocka Byron Stripe Cube Basket is 30 × 30 × 27 cm in the catalogue, so keep it for a larger cube.

Once you type 27.5 cm width, usable width is about 25.9 cm after the pin gap. Payless Plastics lists the Brantly Metal Storage Basket at 25 × 25 × 18 cm, and the catalogue matches that. It has room to slide. Add it to the shelf you measured.

IKEA titles the white RISATORP basket as 25 × 26 × 18 cm. The catalogue stores that row as 26 cm wide, 25 cm deep, and 18 cm high. At 26 cm wide it sits tight once the pin gap is allowed. Read the current listing, and use your tape, before you buy.

IKEA titles the white KUGGIS box with lid as 18 × 26 × 15 cm. The catalogue stores it as 26 cm wide, 18 cm deep, and 15 cm high. Give that 26 cm side the same tape check against the usable opening.

Check the front view, the 2D elevation, and the 3D view beside it. The Brantly basket should sit inside the opening. If a piece shows as too wide or too tall, measure again or pick a smaller piece.

Shortlists

The first card is the white cube unit. The second shortlist keeps baskets and boxes at 25.5 cm wide or under, so they clear the pin gap on a 27.5 cm opening. Confirm each listing.
